A ksar with well-preserved kasbahs showcasing traditional Berber architecture.
Ait Benhaddou is a ksar built with fortified mud-brick structures constructed using a technique known as pisé, where a mixture of mud, straw, and water is compacted into solid walls. The earthy hues of the kasbahs blend harmoniously with the surrounding desert landscape.
Once an important stop along the trans-Saharan trade route, connecting the Sahara Desert with Marrakech and other cities, the ksar served as a strategic trading post and caravan stop, where merchants would rest and conduct business.
Today you can explore the narrow alleys, winding streets, and labyrinthine passages and learn about the customs and traditions of the local Berber inhabitants. Its dramatic desert backdrop have made it a popular film location for numerous movies and TV shows, including "Lawrence of Arabia," "Gladiator" and "Game of Thrones".
